Senior Web Developer

Job Description

We need someone creative who is looking for a change of environment.

Someone who is Senior in their Development skills, and who can work under pressure.

• The development and maintenance of one of South Africa’s top news sites (including related sites)

• Development of special projects and offerings

• Augmentation and implementation of new and existing CMS technologies

• Architecture & planning

• System administration and optimisation

Skills & requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science

• At least 6 years experience in web development

• At least 6 years experience in system administration on LAMP stacks

• A portfolio of (live) sites and/or web applications

Core development skills (expert level):

• PHP 5 (and earlier)

• MySQL

• Javascript (including Jquery and/or general AJAX skills)

• HTML / XHTML

• CSS

• XML

• MVC framework

• Cross browser compatibility and optimization

• Strict W3C coding standards

System administration & back office skills:

• Apache web server

• Linux OSes (Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora)

• Flash media server

• SVN

Highly advantageous:

• Experience with

• CMS development

• High availability architecture

• CodeIgniter framework

• Wordpress

• technologies

Characteristics & competencies:

• Self motivated & passionate with a deep love of good code

• Attention to detail

• Works well under pressure

• A team player

• A willingness to both learn and teach

• A generalist with a big picture view on technology

• Flexible about approach, but inflexible about quality

• A love of great content would be an asset
