Senior Specialist Solution Architecture

Job Description

Objectives:

• To evaluate new or enhancements to technologies and prototypes through paper evaluation, proof of concept and trials.

• To drive technology decisions and acquisition through the procurement tender process.

• To investigate, research and innovate in all fields relevant to a Converged Service Provider, including the network and IT domains.

• To define solution architectures for various initiatives, including the commercialization of mobile and fixed consumer and business products.

• To define technical target architectures for various technologies and domains, including the enhancement/optimization of the mobile and fixed-IP network architectures through a documented enhancement strategy.

• To provide technical co-ordination of projects and initiatives, driving projects to successful completion/implementation.

• To maintain sound relationships within the internal technology groups (networks, billing, IT, online, etc), internal customers and suppliers.

• To compile and collate reporting information, including budgets.

Key Outputs:

• Design architectural solutions in line with project requirements and strategy

• Continuously reviewed and update network targets architectures

• Implement network architecture strategies

• Manage architecture initiatives

• Provided specialist technical support to Product teams i.t.o. knowledge sharing, concept development, etc.

• Conduct research and produce presentations and reports with findings

• Manage technical evaluations through procurement processes and produce procurement recommendations

• Compiled reports and budgets

Competencies:

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of Telecommunication Industry is highly advantageous

• Knowledge of Fixed and Mobile Telecommunications Technologies is essential

• Knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture/Integration/Middleware is essential

• Knowledge of Enterprise/Solution Architecture Methodologies and Best Practices is essential

• Knowledge of Software Development desirable

• Knowledge of Research Methodologies is desirable

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

• Matric/Grade 12 (or SAQA Accredited equivalent) is essential

• A relevant 3 year Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Science (or SAQA Accredited equivalent) is essential

• A relevant Honours or Masters Degree is desirable

• A minimum of 5 years working experience in the Telecommunications Industry.

• A minimum of 1-3 years of the above 5 years experience must be in Solution or Systems Architecture
